Guided by the never-ending search for excellence in health assistance, the
Albert Einstein Jewish Hospital (HIAE) has a leading position amongst the Latin
American hospital institutions. Due to its quality standards, it is the only
institution certified by the Joint Commission International outside the United
States. Furthermore, HIAE has ISO certifications in several areas. Our customers
fully acknowledge this level of excellence, which is based on international
parameters. A survey held in 2003 indicated that Einstein surpasses the
expectations of 97% of its patients – the highest rate achieved amongst the over
100 institutions surveyed.
A high-tech pioneer, HIAE already had, in the 1970’s, Latin America’s two first
magnetic resonance equipments. And it is still in the lead after incorporating a
state-of-the-art diagnosis machine in 2003, the PET CT, which associates the
virtues of PET (Positron Emission Tomography) to the CT (Conventional
Tomography), allowing minimal tumoral lesions measuring up to 4 millimeters in
length to be located with high precision in the very early stages of
development.
The Albert Einstein Jewish Hospital is currently Latin America’s largest liver
transplant center, performing some 120 liver transplants a year, almost 30% of
the national average. Agreements made with the Ministry of Health and with the
State of São Paulo Heath Department have allowed the hospital to democratize
access to this high-complexity medicine. Upwards of 90% of the liver, kidney,
and pancreas transplants Einstein carried out from 2002 to 2004 were done via
the SUS (the Brazilian Single Health Government System).
The infection rate registered from 2002-2003 was below the international
averages. And patient survival rates a year after the transplant, above 90%,
compared to the best results seen in the US and in Europe. Aiming at offering
ambulatory follow-up to the SUS patients in the pre- and pos-transplant period,
Einstein inaugurated, in 2002, the Albert Einstein Transplantation Center, an
exclusive and independent unit located at Avenida Brasil, in São Paulo.
